DRAFTING

It was a bright June and I chose to working part-time as a seller at KL Souvenirs during my semester break. The reason why I chose to work here because I notice that nowadays, it’s very hard for some of us to communicate effectively especially with people that comes from different countries.

Last Friday, I working alone as my partner, Julia is unable to come to work. While doing some chores, I saw a foreighner walk in to my shop. I then give them a greet by saying “Good morning, Sir. May I help you with anything?”. He then say that he was confused to chose which souvenirs should he buy for his wife. I suggest him a gift that tourists normally will choose since buying from that shop. By here, I realize how important it is to making sure that two-way communication is work effectively. I got so many experiences while working here. I learned how to communicate politely when dealing with customers and it’s very important to show a positive appearance while talking to them.

During my time working here, I practised my self to use nonverbal communication with people that are not using English as their languages. For example, during my first time working here, I need to communicate with foreigners that comes from Africa. I saw him having problems while chosing souvenirs. So I greet him “Yes, Sir. Do you need my opinion in making choices?”. He then look at me awkwardly and shaking his head as “No” and he used his hand to told me that he can’t speak English. I understand and start helping his out by using signals and face expressions. From there, I noticed that to effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others. So it’s important to solved problems especially when its come to communication.

I have very much fun working here but need to went to my university back as my semester brake is about to end. I will share this experience working as a souvenir seller to my friend when I saw them in a next semester.
